Signs to look for

  • Cooing, scratching or nesting material under solar panels or in gutters
  • Droppings building up on sills, ledges, a shopfront or the pavement below
  • Blocked gutters and downpipes from nest material and feathers
  • Birds that come back to the same ledge every evening to roost

How we treat it

  • A site survey from the ground or a ladder to see where they land, roost and nest
  • Removal of nests and fouling, with a disinfecting clean of the area
  • Proofing fitted to suit the building, such as spikes, netting, wire or solar panel mesh

Birds are a proofing job, not a treatment. Pigeons and gulls are protected while nesting, and removing birds without proofing the site simply makes room for others. What we sell is a building they cannot settle on.

The survey

We look at where the birds land, where they roost at night and where they nest. Solar panels are the most common problem we see now: the gap underneath is warm, dry and sheltered, and a pair of pigeons can raise six broods a year there. Ledges above shopfronts, chimney stacks, dormer roofs and gutters follow.

Clearing and cleaning

Nests and fouling are removed, bagged and taken away. Droppings carry bacteria and fungal spores, so the area is disinfected and we wear respiratory protection on the day. Gutters and downpipes blocked with nest material are cleared as part of the job.

Proofing that lasts

The right proofing depends on the building. Stainless steel mesh clipped to solar panels. Blunt spikes along ledges and ridges. Netting over light wells and courtyards. Post-and-wire on long parapets where spikes would be seen from the street. Every job is priced after the survey and includes the clean and the proofing; access equipment above two storeys is quoted separately.
